Individuals with less than $10 million of wealth may or may not face estate tax on their property at death, but they need as much careful estate planning as those with more. In fact, traditional estate tax planning often produces additional non-transfer tax benefits, including asset protection, careful management of wealth and entitlement to government benefits in some cases. In fact, a good case can be made that the need for planning is greater for those with more modest wealth than for the super rich. This presentation will cover several important areas of planning for those of moderate wealth from the role of life insurance to IRA/qualified plan planning to portability options to avoiding state and local income taxes.
